Shirley Erline Powelson, resident of Grand Villa Assisted Living in Grand Junction, Colorado, former resident of Colorado Springs, Colorado passed away on May 26, 2021 at the Hope West Hospice Care Center at the age of 91.

Shirley Wilcox was born on October 31, 1929 in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was raised in Green River, Utah where her family had resided for several generations. She attended Mesa Junior College in Grand Junction, Colorado and graduated from Colorado A&M with a degree in home economics education.  She taught high school Home Economics for several years before meeting and marrying William Powelson in Colorado Springs, Colorado where they raised their two daughters with Shirley being focused as a stay-at-home mom.

Shirley was involved in church activities, the AWANA program, gardening, and sewing. When they retired, Shirley and Bill bought a motor home and enjoyed traveling all over the United States.

She is survived by her sister, Kathleen Parks (nee Wilcox); daughters, Paula Dunham (Kirk), and Lori Clum (John); eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, William K. Powelson; parents, Ed and Ruth Wilcox; siblings, Robert Wilcox, Jean Estrada (nee Wilcox), and David Wilcox; grandson, Pietr Clum; and great-granddaughters, Noelle and Asha Hall.

Funeral service, Friday, June 4, 2021, 11:00 a.m., Green River Bible Church (320 Main Street Green River, UT 84525) where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment, Elgin Cemetery, Green River, Utah. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price where friends are always welcome and may share memories online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
