kite-day

The Carbon County Family Support Center and Children Justice Center are eager to celebrate Utah Family Month with an event that will get local families outdoors to enjoy some time together. Director, Shelley Wright took time to come into the Castle Country Radio Station to share details about their upcoming event.

“So all of the Family Support Centers across the state and there are 17 of them actually are celebrating this wonderful thing called Utah Family Month, between Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. Each center is doing something a little bit different but our staple is kite flying,” stated Wright. This is an effort to bring families together by doing an physical activity together and helping to strengthen families.

The Annual Kite Day will take place on Thursday, June 10 at 5:00 pm at the Senior Center at 418 South Fairgrounds Road. “We have all the kites, they will be for free, first come, first serve. I can’t remember how many kites we have, several hundred kits I know. We will be offering free hot dogs and hamburgers. We are also encouraging families to bring their own outside activities, kickball, frisbees – we’ll have frisbees there as well. We’re going to have some chalk, sidewalk chalk painting, bubbles, just different outdoor activities but kite flying is our main activity,” explained Wright. Families will have the opportunity to fly their kites on the lawn of the Carbon County Senior Center.

During Utah Family Month the organization has shared several ideas for family time on their Facebook page. “Is bringing awareness to the community and reminding the community that we are there for them in times of crisis and so parents need to be strengthened and sometimes a way to strengthen them is just to be of support to them.  So that is one of the things that we’re doing is just continuing our awareness and activities that we suggest we put on our Instagram and our Facebook pages just different activities that parents can do with their kids,” stated Wright.
