After the historic run made by the Emery soccer team this season that saw them get one game away from the State Championship round, two Spartan players earned All-State Honorable Mentions on the list that was released on Friday.

After beating one of the top teams in 3A, Grand in the first round and another Region 12 foe, Richfield in round two, the Emery Spartans season came to an end on May 17, with a 4-0 loss to the Morgan Trojans in the semi-finals.

Junior Alex Noriega, a forward on this years squad was singled out as on of the best in 3A this season. Noriega ended the season with nine total goals. Noriega was responsible for the only goal in the first round match-up against Grand which propelled Emery into the quaterfinals.

All season long coach Troy Winter preached defense and  senior defender Thomas Johansen, was one who answered the call for Emery.  Earning six shutouts throughout the season the Spartans tightened up their defense in rounds one and two of the State Championships not allowing a goal in both games.

The 3A-All State selections were voted on by the coaches throughout the classification.
