The Price Kiwanis Club Annual Adopt a Duck Race will take place at Pleasant Valley Days on Saturday, July 3 with the race set to start at 2:30 pm, it will begin in the creek above Scofield and will end in town. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Kiwanis Member, Nick Tatton to discuss all the details of this year’s race.
“It is a great time, it is a long day, Kiwanis will have a booth up at Pleasant Valley Days, at the park in Scofield. Swing by anytime, up till race time we’ll be selling tickets, there $5.00 a ticket to adopt a duck. The way it works is every ticket has a number on it, that number matches the number on the duck and we jumble them all up, throw them in the stream, heard then down the way, and set up a little finish line. Everybody can hang out there and have their picnic, watch who wins,” explained Tatton. If you are available at the race and you do win you could collect your winnings from the Kiwanis booth that day.
The Rubber-Duck Race first-place winner will win $1,000.00, second place will be awarded with $500.00, third will be given $300.00, while fourth place receives $200.00 and not be unnoticed the last duck to cross the finish line will collect $100.00. The great thing about participating in the duck race is that individuals need not be present to win.
The Price Kiwanis Club is a local organization that caters to children in the Carbon and Emery counties. “Kiwanis in my opinion is a great community charity, focuses on kids, specifically kids 12 and under in this area. I think something that is really neat is early next year in January the Price Kiwanis will be 100 years old,” stated Tatton. The organization puts on a Radio Auction each year, hosts Kids Day in the Park and assists students with scholarships, eyeglasses and hearing aids. Its through the help from community members and businesses that makes these annual events a huge success.
Individuals who would like to Adopt a Duck may do so by purchasing tickets from any Kiwanis member or visit Castle Country Radio Station on Carbonville Road.
