The Carbon County 4-H has been very busy already this summer with various activities and events taking place. They still have so much more to do this summer and there is still time to sign up for a club. 4-H Coordinator, DeLayna Barr took time to come into Castle Country Radio to discuss all the details for the month of July.
“We’ve got crocheting, kind of for some beginning crocheting and we’re excited about kind of bringing back some of this lost art that kids don’t know about it a lot. So we are going to have a beginning crocheting. We also have Healthy Habits that’s going to be ran by our youth, so they have had training, they’ve planned it, they’re really excited about it. So they’ll have some good activities and supplies for them that is all for free,” said Barr. There will also be STEM Adventures which involves drones and robots, plus a Level 3 Cooking course where students will learn about party planning, slow cooker, and yeast breads.
There are a lot of activities that are being taught by the Youth Council, which is the older students teaching the younger kids. “It is so amazing to see these kids step up and to be leaders. We, 4-H grows leaders that’s kind of our main component. Giving those kids the opportunity so when they are out on their own, they’re like oh yea, I’ve done that, let me show you how to do that,” explained Barr. All youth leaders undergo training and background checks so that they can socialize with the younger students.
