The Greek Festival is coming up and many folks are excited that it will be hosted this year, since last year it had to be canceled due to the COVID pandemic. It’s going to be a bit different this year but will feature all the delicious food that many locals have come to love.

“We’re just not quite ready to have Greek Festival Days the way Carbon County has had it in the past. But this year we are going to do an “Express” – which is just food and you’ll pick up the food and take it to your own retreat and enjoy it there. We are not going to have dancers or entertainment. However, Chris Dokos has volunteered to come play and give some ambiance on Friday evening from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and then again on Saturday.  So that pretty much is the only entertainment that we will be having,” said an Event Organizer, Connie Hamilton. The church wanted to make sure that they were following all guidelines set in place by the local Health Department.

“This is going to be very different this year for us, and bear with us because we are learning as we go as well. We are charging $20.00 a platter, and that includes one entrée and four side dishes. So you can choose your own entrée, you can choose a Gyro, and I think most people know what Gyros are; and Souvlaki which is the Shish-ka-bob or the Greek Chicken which is a Greek baked lemon chicken,” explained Hamilton. The four sides that guests can choose from are Greek Rice Pilaf, Two Domathes, One Tiropita or Faolia. Quantities of each entrée and sides dishes are limited, so its first come, first serve.

There will also be delicious pastries that are boxed to go. “The pastries are boxed and we’re trying to do everything so that its prepared ahead of time and we’re in compliance. So we did four Kourambiethes which are the powdered sugar cookies, in a box of four for $6.00 or four Finikia, which are the round dipped in syrup and covered in nuts and those would be four in a box. Now the Koulourakia are the twisted ones that have sesame seeds on top but we are selling them for a dozen for $6.00 and then the sweet bread which is the Tsoureki for $8.00,” explained Hamilton. All the food items have been carefully prepared by the church members.

Hamilton shared the dates with listeners, “Its July 9th and 10th, its always the first weekend in July and we will begin serving at 11:00 am and going till 8:00 pm both Friday and Saturday. We hope to see everyone, come down and enjoy and grab your food and come back for seconds and come back the next day as well.” The church is located at 61 South 200 East in Price.
