The 70th Annual Sunnyside Rodeo will take place on Friday, July 9 and Saturday, July 10 at the spectacular Sunnyside arena. The kid’s events will start at 6:30 pm, with the main rodeo set to begin 8:00 pm on both nights.

“So before the show we’re having Jackpot Junior Barrels, three different age groups; and Muttin Bustin, and then during the rodeo we’ll have the chicken chase. Then we’ll have what we call Dash for Cash, they put some little pieces of duct tape on a steer and the kids like 8 to 14 years old, go out and each one of them pieces of tape they get a dollar,” said Rodeo Announcer, Dale Andrews. The Jackpot Junior Barrel race is set to begin at 6:30 pm and Muttin Bustin is set for 7:00 pm. There is a $5.00 entry fee for each event. The Chicken Chase and the Dash for Cash will be held at half-time during the rodeo.

Rodeo officials are hosting two fun events on Friday and Saturday night to get the crowd involved. On Friday night there will be a Buddy Barrel Race as Andrews explains, “It’s kind of a team event. One person is standing on a 55-gallon barrel, and the other person comes down and goes around the barrel and picks them up and they hang on for dear life and the fastest time takes home the money.” On Saturday night there will be the Hide Race where a person will ride behind a horse on top of piece of hid towards the finish line trying to be the fastest. The cost to participate is $50.00 per event, with a 10-team limit.

The spectators are sure to have a great show put on by all the competitors.  “Well there’s the saddle bronc, and bareback, the roping events. This particular stock contractor comes to us from Smithville, Utah, way up north. If anybody happened to be over at the Huntington Rodeo, then they seen how rough the stock is and it is. I think they had one bull ride out of 27 riders. He has very good stock,” said Andrews. Admission into the rodeo is $8.00 per person, with kids 6 years and under are free. There will be a concession stand available for guests to enjoy delicious food items.
