James David Barney “David” 53, passed away July 3, 2021 at his home in Helper from cancer.

He was born to John D. and Janet Bryan Barney in Price, Utah on May 24, 1968.

David joined the U.S. Army in May 3, 1990 and served for 6 1/2 years as an interpreter after graduating from the Presidio of Monterey. After leaving the Army, he moved to Manhattan and worked at Citi Bank for 20 years before moving to Las Vegas.

David loved hiking and became known as the “Naked Hiker.” He was recognized by many people from his Facebook and Instagram posts.

David traveled all over the world and had many experiences, including an African safari. He loved camping, fishing and all outdoor activities. He was also an excellent cook. David made many friends in the Army and New York, and he kept in contact with them all over the years. He loved being with friends and family. He always told stories about himself and the dumb things he and his brothers did as kids (of course, the parents didn’t hear about them until they were grown). We loved playing cards and often laughed so much we cried; to David family always came first. He was a wonderful son and brother who will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his parents; brothers, Danny (and his wife Teri) of Helper, Jason (and his wife Gissella) of Alabama; and many loving nieces and nephews.

David’s wishes were not to have a funeral service, but be cremated. In lieu of a service, a small family gathering will be arranged at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home where friends are always welcome daily and may share memories online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.

Special thanks to all the Rocky Mountain Healthcare nurses and Castleview Hospital staff who were so caring and wonderful. We would also like to thank Dr. Larsen, Dr. Melvin and Dr. Thayn for all of their services.
