The Southeastern Utah Health Department came into Castle Country Radio to talk about an uptick in the COVID numbers in our area which has moved the area up to a moderate level at this time.

“We are at a moderate level. Those levels right now are pretty much-considered guidance levels, there’s not a whole lot of restrictions that come along with low, medium, or high it just kind of helps the community to understand what’s happening. So we are at moderate,” said Director Brady Bradford. Depending on how the numbers sit after this weekend there is a possibility that the county could move to a high level.

Officials are not too surprised by the uptick in numbers as Bradford explains, “We did anticipate that we weren’t quite done, as activities and events opened up, we would see more interaction of people and that would lead to a little bit of an increase in the number of cases we see.” The majority of what is being transmitted now is pretty much homegrown, meaning no one is traveling out of area and bringing it back.

There are still vaccines available at the Southeastern Utah Health Department.  “You can call and make an appointment. We still have the option of scheduling that online you can get some of that paperwork done ahead of time which streamlines the process a little bit. But if that’s not for you then Tuesdays and Wednesdays particularly in the afternoon where walk-ins are accepted,” said Bradford. The health department will also set up a booth at various community events throughout the summer to administer the vaccine if people choose to get one.
