Golfers from around the state will descend on the Carbon Country Club Golf Course this weekend as they prepare to host the Black Diamond Open beginning on Friday July 9 starting with an Am-Am and continuing  on Saturday and Sunday for the two day 36-hole tournament.

The Black Diamond has been a part of golfing in the area for over 40 years, bringing golfers from around the state as well as some western states to our area to try to tame the course. In talking with course pro Tom King he said there will be over 180 golfers on the course this weekend and just 40% of those are local. This event will bring hundreds of people to the area and hopefully it will create a “trickle-down” effect to the surrounding communities as they stay in the hotels and eat at local restaurants.

The event will kick-off on Friday at 10 a.m., with the Am-Am,  it will put players together in a team style competition covering 18 holes.  This contest replaces the Pro-Am event that usually takes place on the opening day, but there will not be any professionals in attendance this year.

On Saturday morning, the main event will begin at 8 a.m., with the golfers starting two days and 36 holes of golf. The golfers will be in four different categories: Championship, A, B and C flights, with each flight containing  golfers of the same skill level.

The tournament will wrap up on Sunday afternoon where winners will be named in each category. Check back with Castle Country Radio for the results as they become available.

King also wished to thank the Tony Basso Group, Aspen Financial, BODEC Electric and all of the sponsors for all they contribute, saying that without them the tournament wouldn’t be possible.
