The city of Orangeville is gearing up for their annual city celebration taking place on July 23 and July 24. Castle Country Radio was able to speak over the telephone with Mayor Roger Swenson about the event.

“We’ve had a couple of tough years. We had a year with COVID and all that went on with the pandemic, and now we’re in the middle of a drought. We just want to celebrate and move on and enjoy life and enjoy Orangeville. So the title again is Moving On 2021,” said Mayor Swenson. The city is hosting the annual event for everyone in the community to attend and enjoy.

Things will kick off on Friday, July 23 with a kid’s bike parade. “Well, we have a kids bike parade that day and a bike rodeo. That’ll begin at 4:00 pm, they will meet at the Orangeville Church on Main Street in Orangeville. That should be a really fun time for the youngsters. That evening starting at 5:30 pm we have the lamb fry. The Humphrey Brothers have been doing that for a long, long time and if anyone loves lamb, they have to have that. So we’ll have a lamb fry in the city park at 5:30 pm,” said Mayor Swenson. The Lamb Fry will be held at the Orangeville City Park and the cost for a plate is $7.00. The Straight Canyon band will provide live entertainment during dinner.

There will be a Light Run held at dusk as Mayor Swenson explains, “At dusk there is a light run along the Cottonwood Creek Trail. We’ve been working really hard. We now have a walking/running trail along Cottonwood Creek. So there will be a Light Run along that.” This is a glow run/walk with prizes being awarded to the top three runners plus awards given to the person or group who dresses the craziest for the race. The cost to participate is $5.00 and it includes an event t-shirt.

On Saturday, July 24 the fun starts off bright and early. “At 7:00 am in the morning at the city park there’s a breakfast that’s been a tradition as well. There will be bacon, eggs, and sausage and everything to go with it that morning,” said Mayor Swenson. Following breakfast in the park there will be a parade on the city’s Main Street at 10:00 am.  After the annual parade there will be vendors booths set up in the park to go and enjoy all day. There will also be a ATV Poker Ride held at 2:00 pm followed with dinner and entertainment at 6:30 pm. Orangeville Days will close out their city celebration with a fireworks show at dust.
