Carbon County Family Support and Children’s Justice Center (CJC) held their fourth annual Family Kite Day event on June 10 and Director, Shelley Wright was happy to report to Castle Country Radio that the event was a huge success and many were in attendance.
“Generally speaking, we’re lucky to get five families to attend, I don’t know how many families totally attended but we cooked 60 hot dogs, 60 hamburgers and had to buy more and we were really busy. We even had people who are barely moving to the community and they saw the event or heard it on the radio and they came out. So it was really, really, successful just to see some new families,” said Wright. Many fathers, mothers and children enjoyed spending quality time with each other at the free event.
July is going to be another busy month for the CJC as they are going to participate in the International Days Kid’s Day event. “Every year we do some sort of game and we have some great prizes to hand out we have frisbees, we have bracelets, and always of course our stuffed animals because we are known for the teddy bear and the stuffed animals at the center, so we’ll be giving those away as well and just information about the center so we welcome the families to stop by our booth,” stated Wright. Kid’s Day will take place at 10:00 am on Friday, July 30 across the street from the wave pool.
The CJC will close out the summer with their annual Back to School Giveaway. Last year was the first year they held it at the Carbon County Event Center and it proved to be the right fit for the annual event. “We’re still going to schedule some families in but it won’t be as restricted as we had last year. It will be held from August 10 through August 12 at the event center. We ask that families please call 435-636-3736 that will take you to our office assistant and she’ll put you on our schedule,” explained Wright. The items that will be for giveaway are backpacks full of school supplies, clothes, and this year there will be shoe vouchers. The center praises its fellow agencies and local businesses that assist with this program because without them this annual event would not be possible.
