The 1st Annual Catfish on the Green will take place on July 30 and July 31 in Green River.  Event Representative, Amanda Leonard took time to visit with Castle Country Radio to discuss all the details of the competition.

“So the Catfishing Tournament is either individual or a two man team event. It will start Friday night July 30 at 5:00 pm and run through the night until noon on Saturday that July 31,” stated Leonard. The cost to participate is $50.00 per person that includes a free camp chair for the first 100 people to register online plus food vouchers and entrance into the State Park.

The judging will begin promptly at noon on July 31 at the Green River State Park pavilion. “It will be for the individual the single longest fish so it will be measured we’re not doing weight. Then for the team tournament it will be their two longest fish,” said Leonard. Measuring will begin at noon and will be measured to the nearest 1/8 inch.  Host decisions will not be disputed and are final. If anglers are not in line by noon their fish will be disqualified.

Also there is currently a Tagged Fish Contest taking place which started on May 1 and is running through till October 1. This is a competition that anglers try to catch a tagged fish from Millsite State Park, Joe’s Valley Reservoir or Huntington State Park. As of today, there has been two tagged fish caught and there is still more out there that can be caught for the competition.

“The Green River is something the tourism office wants to find different ways to highlight and so we thought both of these events complement each other and we decided to use the catfish tournament as kind of the kick off to River Festival week,” stated Leonard.
