Bode Salas is heading into his junior year at Carbon High School and coming off a phenomenal last season in which he was named the 3A State Champion as a sophomore. Last weekend Salas traveled to the Park City Golf Club for the Utah Junior Golf Association’s (UJGA) Players Championship Invitational where he tied for first place with Lone Peak’s Cooper Jones.
Salas was tied at 76 with Jones after 18 holes using the Modified Stableford scoring system. The Stableford system awards points as follows: one point for a double bogey, two points for a bogey, four for par, six for birdie, eight for eagle and 10 for double eagle and the highest score wins.
Salas opened play with three straight pars followed up with a birdie on the par 5 No. 4 hole. Three more pars, a birdie on 8 and another par on nine got him to a 40 at the turn. A birdie on 10 and then three bogies spread out over the next seven holes would get Salas to No. 18 where he would end his round with a birdie.
With the top finish, Salas has now been invited to the Tucker Tour Championship at the Talon’s Cove Golf Club on August 28 in Saratoga Springs.
Salas is back on the course on Wednesday, August 4, in Cedar City with the rest of the Carbon High Golf team for the opening match of the season.
