The Carbon Caring for Kids organization is preparing for another school year of food kits for students in need. Coordinator, Marcie Loveless stopped by Castle Country Radio to share all the details about the group.

“Carbon Caring for Kids has been around for four or five years now and we help feed kids on the weekends. So kids who don’t get a lot of food on the weekends or aren’t getting fed, who just need a little bit of extra help, we kind of help to provide that help. So the community donates food and money, and we have groups come to my home every week and they make these kits. We have another set of volunteers who take them to the counselors at the school, who then hands them to these kids, so it’s completely anonymous,” explains Loveless. This volunteer-based program would not be possible without the community stepping up to assist them.

Carbon Caring for Kids will not know how many students they will assist this year until school is in session but they’ve already had folks contact them to help put food kits together. “Our community is incredible. I haven’t put anything out on Facebook for a little while but this last week I’ve had a couple of people already contact me of getting on the schedule to pack kits. I came home from the weekend and I had probably 30 bags of food on my front doorstep that a group of kids had done a food drive for a service project and it continuously amazes me,” stated Loveless.

The organization relies heavily on getting the information out to the community by utilizing their Facebook page. “Carbon Caring for Kids is our Facebook page. Every Monday I try to post everything that we need for that week, we try and stay a couple weeks ahead so we have enough food so we’re not stressing getting last minute food every single week. But we also have a Venmo, Carbon Caring for Kids that you can donate to,” said Loveless. They have different drop off points throughout town where food donations can be dropped off. There is Loveless Ash at 1285 East 650 South, Carbon Print & Design at 86 East 100 South, and Jake Mellor Financial Services at 453 East Main Street Suite #200.
