The Pinnacle Panthers baseball team traveled to Richfield to take part in the 1A preview tournament that started Wednesday. Coming off a loss to Green River on Tuesday the  Panthers entered play 0-3. With two tough first games against Piute and Wayne, Pinnacle sits at 0-5 with two games remaining in tournament play.

Playing two games Wednesday the Panthers offensive struggles continued dropping the first game with Piute 17-6 and the second game with Wayne 22-0. Pinnacle has a game with the Tabiona Tigers on Thursday.

Below is a recap of each game:

Piute Thunderbirds – Loss 17-6

Errors plagued Pinnacle in the first game as they committed a total of  seven, with four of them coming in the first inning. Piute would capitalize on the errors by scoring 10 runs in the first putting the game away early.

Three more errors in the second would equal five runs for Piute. Pinnacle would get on the board as Michael Schmitz would score on a passed ball in the bottom half of the inning.

In the bottom of the third the Panthers would find some offense putting up four more runs. Delbert Lain would score on a passed ball and Schmitz would drive in two off of a triple to left. Schmitz would also score later in the inning bringing the score to 15-5.

In the fourth, Piute would finish off Pinnacle adding two more runs pushing the score to 17-5. Pinnacle added one last score in the bottom of the inning as McGuire Kocks would score before the final out of the inning.

Offensively the Panthers looked to Schmitz who had two hits with two RBIs and scored twice. Lain and Kocks also registered doubles in the loss.

On the mound Jaxson Cranford got the start going three and surrendering 17 runs (six earned) on none hits and struck out one.

Wayne Badgers- Loss  22-0

The game against the Badgers started out the same way as the game with Piute.  Wayne would score 10 runs in the first inning and then keep their foot on the pedal scoring six more in the third and six in the fourth to take the 22-0 win over Pinnacle.

On the mound the Panthers put a quartet of hurlers in front of the Badgers. Lain got the start going just 2/3 of an inning giving up seven runs (six earned) on two hits and walked six. Cranford came in to go 1 2/3 and surrendered six runs on three hits and Jayson Miller went one inning with six runs (three earned) on four hits.
