Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with this year’s Miss Emery Teen and Miss Emery County to talk about their platforms. Both girls were recently crowned over the summer and will represent their community at various functions throughout the area.

Miss Emery County is Brooklyn Johansen who will be a senior at Emery High School this year. “I chose my platform because a very close family to me, their daughter was five years old and was diagnosed with DIPG brain tumor and passed away last November. So I wanted to do what ever I could to help their family raise money for medical expenses, and I wanted to raise more awareness for childhood cancer research and do more fundraisers to help the children and families that are going through this,” stated Johansen. Her platform is entitled, Go Gold Childhood Cancer Awareness, she is very excited to speak about her platform over the course of her reign as it is near and dear to her heart.

Miss Emery Teen was also crowned in July and her name is Brinlee Hurdsman, she also attends Emery High School where she will be a Junior. “My platform is Caring for Kids – No kid left hungry. It’s a program that provides food kits for kids over the weekend. We are now accepting donations and we will start packing kits the first week of school,” said Hurdsman. This is a program that mirrors the Carbon Caring for Kids program in Carbon County. Residents of Emery County can make monetary or food donations towards the cause by delivering those items to Magnuson Lumber at 495 East Main Street in Castle Dale or to Desertview Federal Credit Union at 196 North Main Street in Huntington.

The Miss Emery organization is hosting their annual golf tournament on Saturday, August 14. “Our annual Miss Emery Golf Tournament is this Saturday the 14th. It starts at 8:00 am, it is a four-person scramble at Millsite Golf Course in Ferron. If you golf, get your teams together and call Casey at the golf course.
