It’s time for Castle Country Radio to sit down with Elmo City Mayor James Winn to discuss what is new with the city. He was eager to speak about water conservation, town dumpsters and Horse & Buggy Days.

The city has been very pleased with the efforts their citizens have done to help conserve water this year. “We were told that, a meeting I went to last month that we’ll probably last for secondary water till the middle of August. Hopefully, people can conserve some more and we can stretch it out as long as we can,” stated Mayor Winn. The city originally projected that the secondary water would only last till July so it’s been great that citizens have been watching their water usage.

The city dumpsters were an issue the last time Castle Country Radio spoke with Mayor Winn as it was reported that drug activity was taking place near the dumpster area.   “The solution we came up with was to build a fence around it. We’re going to get the dumpsters back we know it’s a good benefit for the citizens. We decided to build a fence, we had quotes come in and we got a really good quote and we decided on it at our meeting. So as soon as the contractor is able to get the material, we will get it built,” stated Mayor Winn. It is not known at this time when that will be completed as it depends on when the contractor is able to get the material needed for the fencing.

The annual Horse & Buggy Days is set to take place on August 12 through August 14. This is a fun family gathering that the city puts on every year. “Friday is when things really get going, we do our bike ride and then we always do our Glow Run at dusk on Friday night. It’s been a popular thing, we close off the road so it’s a closed course and we’re able to go on the road where there’s no light,” explained Mayor Winn. There is a cost to participate in the Glow Run it’s $15.00 for adults and $10.00 for children 12 and under. Participants will receive a shirt, glow stocks, bag and drink.

There is all day fun planned for August 14 with a free breakfast in the park at 7:00 am, followed by a parade at 10:30 am on the city’s Main Street. “Then after that we do BINGO in the park. We also have a foam pit; our fire department is going to do a foam pit for the kids to play in and get wet. Den and Jen’s there going to bring over some bounce houses and a slide. So it’s going to be a good time on Saturday,” said Mayor Winn. The evening will close out with a free movie in the park at dusk.
