
The Green River Pirates were in Richfield to play in a pre-season 1A Preview Tournament on Wednesday and Thursday. Getting prepared for the regular season of play, the Pirates struggled at times to find offense losing three games and running their season record to 1-5.
Green River started play last week with losses to Wayne and Altamont and earning a win over Pinnacle.
Below is a recap of all three games:
Valley- Loss 13-2
In the opening game of the tournament on Thursday Green River faced Valley, a school from Orderville.
Valley jumped out in the first two innings scoring a combined 11 runs.
Jay Mendez would put the Pirates on the board in the fourth off a Jordan Anderson single.
Diamond Ranch Academy (DRA) – Loss 8-3
Diamond Ranch would take the early lead with a three run shot in the first inning, and would throw five more runs on the board in the third.
The Pirates would put up one run in the fourth inning off of a single that allowed Anderson to score. In the fifth they would add two more when Hoyt Hunt would steal home and Ryker Meadows would score on a passed ball.
Camden Anderson would register one hit and Hunt also gathered a double.
Ryker Meadows was on the mound going for five innings giving up eight earned runs on 14 hits while striking out four.
Panguitch – Loss 18-6
Green River let the final game with Panguitch get away early, allowing 16 runs in the first two innings.
The Pirates would put up four runs in the third making the score 16-5 headed into the bottom of the inning where Panguitch added two more, and by holding Green River to just a single run that ended the game.
Meadows collected two hits while Hunt, Jordan Anderson and Jo Vollmer each added one.
On the mound a trio of Pirates took to the hill. With Vollmer getting the start going a third of an inning giving up six earned runs. Hunt would come in and go 2/3 and surrendered nine earned and Cristian Venzor came in to finish out the game giving up three earned on five hits.
