It’s early in the season for the Green River Pirate volleyball squad, who opened the year at a tournament in Manilla. Going 1-2 at the tournament taking a win in the match with Wendover, the Pirates came home to face Gunnison Valley on Tuesday. Unfortunetly, Green River dropped the match in straight sets.
Suffering losses to American Prep Academy from West Valley and Wendover , a team they would play twice in two days at the tournament, the Pirates are still just starting the season and with four matches under their belts, Green River will have plenty of time to put it all together before playoff time rolls around in October.
For the match against Gunnison Valley, all three sets were competitive with Green River falling in the first set 25-17, the second set 25-15 and third set 25-20.
The Pirates will start their region schedule on Aug. 31 when the Pinnacle Panthers come to town. Senior night will take place on Oct. 7 when Monticello comes to town. The regular season will end on Oct. 15 when Green River travels to Monument Valley.
Up next is a road trip to face Wendover on Friday. They will be back on their home floor to face Wayne on Aug. 26.
