The Utah Support Advocates for Recovery Awareness (USARA) is an organization that helps those in recovery from drugs and alcohol. They have been chosen as Castle Country Radio’s August Charity of the Month. Peer Recovery Coach, Mersades Morgan took time to come in to Castle Country Radio to talk about the organization.

“USARA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and we have a recovery community center its on Main Street in Price at 91 East Main Street. What we offer is recovery support services. So we provide, currently, seven mutual aid support groups of all pathways to recovery. We are non-clinical; we are peer led organization. Which means that I myself who run USARA and am in long term recovery and I have that same shared lived experience,” stated Morgan. They also do one-on-one recovery coaching, as well as providing resources, connecting with resources in the community.

They offer a wide array of weekly meetings to help those in recovery. “So we have a set schedule and currently as I mentioned we have seven groups, those are all pathways to recovery. So we have things like recovery yoga, we have coffee and recovery which is open discussion, we do an introductory 12-step, a wellness check and we also have Family Fun Night once a month. So we’re really working on focusing on the different areas that somebody may need or somebody may really flourish in,” stated Morgan. The Coffee and Recovery is held every Tuesday and Thursday at 9:00 am. Recovery Yoga is held Monday evenings from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm and Friday mornings from 9:00 am to 10:00 am. The next Family Fun Night will be held towards the end of the month and will feature a game of water volleyball which is sure to be lots of fun.

Recovery Day is coming up on September 24 and USARA has lots of activities planned for this event. “Lots of fun stuff planned for that, a bunch of resources that will be made available to the community, lots of educations, swag. Different opportunities, we’ll have a food truck there to feed our group of people that are going to come and support us. We’ll have a softball game with recoveries, law enforcement and first responders. So it should be an amazing turnout,” explained Morgan. This is a wonderful opportunity for those in recovery to meet local law enforcement and first responders in a fun setting.
