It’s time for another Huntington City update with Mayor Leonard Norton who took time to speak over the telephone with Castle Country Radio to discuss Heritage Days, water, and construction projects.

This year’s Heritage Days celebration was a huge hit with residents as this year’s event was held at the Canyon View Middle School which allowed for more room to social distance while enjoying all the scheduled activities. “Yea, we’re talking next year probably stay the same format, will try it out again at the middle school. There are a few things we came across that we need to improve on and we’re working at that to make it a go. But it was a real good celebration, good turnout, and a lot of good feedback,” said Mayor Leonard. The city hosts this annual event around the Fourth of July holiday.

Over the summer the city encouraged their residents to watch their water usage and their hard work has paid off.  “We want to commend our citizens they did a very good job of helping stretch our water out, being conservative, being conscious of what we are doing. As everybody knows it is a dry, very dry year and we didn’t get a lot of water. So hopefully we can get a good snow and rain this fall and snow this winter to help build them back up. Yea, we’re looking maybe another couple of weeks of water before they start shutting us off,” stated Mayor Leonard.

The city is currently finishing up some sidewalk, curb and gutter projects before the fall season rolls in. “We had some curb and gutter this year that I think they are pretty close to being done in Huntington with curb and gutter. We had a couple of roads paved. We got one sidewalk project on Main Street we try to get filled up this next couple of months and done, it should make our Main Street look good with sidewalks all the way down it. That’s what were looking at for construction projects for this year,” explained Mayor Leonard. The beautification of the city’s Main Street will all come together once the sidewalk has been completed.

The next city event will take place the first part of October and the city is looking forward to helping with the event. “Right around the first of October we got a group of ladies that are kind of a witches group that goes around singing. Last year they started a little Halloween Festival with a little light parade and this year we’re going to expand on it have a little light parade around the first of October with a little festival type thing,” stated Mayor Leonard.  More information will be shared with the public as the event gets closer.
