The Pinnacle Panthers have been seeking their first win of the season since it began back on Aug. 2. Pinnacle had struggled through the 1A preview and then dropped another to Tintic 15-7. On Saturday the Wendover Wildcats came to town and Pinnacle earned the 6-4 win.

The Panthers got on the board in the bottom of the first inning when Delbert Lain sent one to center field allowing McGuire Kocks to cross the plate, then in the next at bat, Lain would score on a passed ball.

Wendover added a couple of runs in the top of the third. In the bottom of the inning the Panthers came up to the plate and Michael Schmitz singled to center field bringing in Kocks and Lain. Schmitz would score on a passed ball later in the inning pushing the score to 5-2.

Both teams would go quiet in the fourth and then in the top of fifth, Wendover tallied two more runs on the board. Pinnacle came up in the bottom of the inning scoring one more run and then turned on the defense to take the 6-4 win.

Lain went 2-of-3 from the plate driving in a run with two hits and also scored two. Kocks crossed the plate three times with one hit and Schmitz collected one run, one hit and added two RBIs.

On the mound, Todd MacFarland went 3 1/3 giving up two earned runs on two hits and struck out five. Kocks came in and went 3 2/3 and gave up 2 runs on one hit and struck out eight.

Pinnacle has had a rough start to the season, now sitting at 1-7 early on. The region portion of their schedule will start on Aug. 25 when they travel to Piute and the first RPI rankings will be released on Thursday.

Up next for the Panthers they will be on the road against Tabiona.

The Panthers will be home on Friday to face Bryce Valley. Game time is at 3 p.m. at Carlson-Colosimo Field at the Atwood complex.
