Castle Dale- Carl Allen Jacobson was the 7th child of Clyde Ardean and Regina Jacobson. Carl made his debut to the world on November 28, 1961 in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Mother was expecting to deliver him in the Provo Hospital, just like she had her other children. The doctor was busy golfing and they wanted her to wait until the game was over. She told dad that she had a feeling he wouldn’t make it if they waited, so they hurried to SLC, where Dr. Carl Wolsey cared for mother and her baby boy. Mother knew he had saved her baby’s life and in honor of him, named her baby after him.

He joined the family at their family farm in Provo, where at a young age he learned the ways of the gift of communication, as he became the best sweet corn salesman of a baker’s dozen. His siblings would pick the corn, load and push the cart, but Carl was the chosen one to go to the door to make the sale. They never came back with leftover corn.

School was an exciting time for him. He loved the knowledge he would receive from a good book. His elementary days were spent at Sunset Elementary in Provo, and then with the move to Orem, he continued with Orem Junior High, and then graduating from Orem Senior High in 1980. While in Junior High, he broke his middle finger and had to wear a cast that made him look like he was flipping the bird to everyone, therefore, started the nickname of “Birdie”, which he carried all through his school days.

He had a love for vintage cars, especially for the Cadillac. At the tender age of 16, he bought his first 1959 Fleetwood Cadillac, with pointy fins and all. He took a few classes at the local technical college, with one of them being auto body. That was the moment the Caddy became the famous pink Cadillac of Provo.

After moving in with his aunt, Carl was enlightened by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and accepted a call to the Raleigh, North Carolina Mission.  There he fell in love with the Smoky Mountains and the many companions, that he still kept in contact to this day.

Once returning from his mission, he instantly jumped into a career as a Peace Officer at the Utah State Correctional Facility in Draper, Utah. Starting as an Officer, he then moved his way up to a Sargent, Lieutenant and then retiring as a Captain. During those years, he never let a good prank pass him by and brought much laughter to the walls of the prison. He served there, very diligently, for 22 years.

While taking a country western dance class, he met and married his beautiful wife, Jenny Croft Burk on July 12, 1990. Together, he welcomed her 2 children, Misty and Pim Burk into the marriage.  After many years of stress and sorrow, they finally were blessed with two bundles of joy, Abby Zoe and Holly Mae. They were the twinkle that shined in his eyes. They were the reason he woke up in the morning.

Besides working as a Peace Officer, Carl, dabbled his hand into many real estate endeavors. Buying, fixing up and selling homes. His biggest adventure being the purchase of Esquire Estate Trailer Park in Castle Dale, Utah.

He was a social butterfly. He could talk to anyone. He was the quiet server, showing up with goods and services to many who were in need. His greatest joy was in his service to those who would accept it and he loved to help someone progress in this thing we call life.

Carl fought the battles of depression, loses and made mistakes along his path of life. Unfortunately, Jenny and him were later divorced and the weight of the world upon his shoulders became too much for him to bear. He quietly took his life on August 24, 2021.

Carl is survived by his 4 children, Misty (David) Christensen, Spanish Fork, Utah; Pimerton (Laurie) Burk, Spanish Fork, Utah; Abby (Kyler) Farley, Castle Dale, Utah; and Holly (Jessee) Jewkes, Ferron, Utah. He will also be missed by his 10 grandchildren 2 great-grandchildren and 8 siblings. He is preceded in death by his parents, who welcomed him with open arms.

Please don’t take your loved ones for granted. You never know the battles they are dealing with. Be gentle! Be kind! Be loving, no matter what! Don’t be embarrassed to put your arm around the ones that probably need it the most!

Carl will be honored on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at the Castle Dale Stake Center in Castle Dale, Utah starting at 2:00 p.m. A visitation will be Friday from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. and an hour before the service on Saturday. He will be laid to rest in the Castle Dale Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home where friends are welcome to share memories at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
