The Panther baseball team has had trouble lately putting up runs. Pinnacle has lost their last four contests after posting their first win of the season against Wendover back on August 21. Since then they have had losses against Tabiona, Piute and Bryce Valley. Yesterday they were back on the field to face Altamont on their home field. Going just 5 innings the Panthers took a 15-4 loss.
Altamont posted nine runs in the first inning and never really took their foot off the gas posting two more in the second and four more in the fourth, pushing the Panthers to the edge.
Michael Schmitz was a bright spot for the Panthers sending one over the left field fence to put Pinnacle’s first run on the board. In the top of the fourth the McGuire Kocks doubled to center sending Jayson Miller and Jaxon Cranford home. Two batters later Kaydence Romero would score off of a Brendin Bigelow single.
For the Panthers Kocks, Schmitz and Todd McFarland all registered a hit. Kocks had two RBIs while Schmitz and Bigelow each earned one.
On the mound, McFarland got the start going three innings and gave up 15 runs (nine earned) on 10 hits while striking out five. Kocks came in to finish the game putting in just one inning of work striking out two.
The Panthers also sit at No. 14 in the RPI that was recently posted by the Utah High School Activities Association.
Up next for Pinnacle they will be on the road to face region opponent Valley. This will be the first time the two teams face off, the match-up is set for Wednesday.
They will be home again on Wednesday Sept. 8 to host Green River. Game time is set for 3 p.m..
