Carbon Dino volleyball has been enjoying an eight game win streak since the beginning of the season back on August 14. Last night they were handed their first loss of the season by the 3A defending champion Union Cougars, 3-1.

The Dinos are coming off of a part of their schedule where they played six games in seven days ending with the Union match -up.

The Cougars were first to strike taking set number one 25-13. Carbon came back in the second to tie up the match at one set each winning 25-17, but that would be the end of it for the Dinos as Union grabbed the final two 25-19 and 25-16.

Lyndee Mower collected 26 digs and 12 kills for Carbon. Sydney Orth and Madi Orth both had nine kills and Janzie Jensen and Bennett Peterson both added 10 digs. Peterson also led the Dinos with 19 assists in the loss.

“No one likes to go and lose, and these girls that I’ve been coaching for the past couple months, they are fighters, and they obviously don’t like to lose. We learned some valuable lessons by that loss last night, I think we’ve got a new refocus, we’ve got some things, when you get your backs against the wall you expose some of the areas that you need to improve on, so I think that’s good for us to refocus. You know last night’s game, it always hurts to lose but we really need to beat them in October, that’s when it really counts”, said Carbon head coach Teresa Mower on Wednesday’s Drive Time Sports.

The Dinos will wait and see where they land on the Utah High School Activities Association’s initial RPI rankings that will be released on Sept. 11.

Carbon will face The Grand County Red Devils Thursday in Moab.

Next Thursday they welcome North Summit to Price. Game time will be 6:30.
