It’s time for Ferron City’s annual town celebration, Peach Days is set to take place the week of September 7. Mayor Adele Justice took time to speak over the telephone with Castle Country Radio to discuss all the details of the celebration.

“We’ve been doing Peach Days since 1901 and we have not missed a year. Even last year with COVID we still held a small celebration and we’re just wanting to keep this celebration continuous for as long as we can,” said Mayor Justice. This is a family friendly gathering that hosts several events throughout the week and all community members young and old are invited to attend.

“Tuesday, September 7 we’ve got our sidewalk Picasso at 6:00 pm in the Mayor’s Park. We invite everybody to come on out and families and paint the sidewalk with chalk. Make pictures, designs, drawings, whatever you want to do we just love having that park painted up with the sidewalk,” said Mayor Justice. This is the only event that will be held on Tuesday but it’s sure to be a great family gathering.

On the evening of September 8 there will be the annual Bike Ride. “So Wednesday is probably one of our popular events of Peach Days it’s our Bike Ride. We meet at the park and take out on two or three different rides on bikes. Industrial Electric has been good to donate bikes to us in the past and a few others have put in a little money towards it and we usually give away about 15 bikes,” explained Mayor Justice. The event organizers will host an opportunity drawing for children to have a chance to win a brand-new bike.

Thursday evening will feature a Fun Run at 6:00 pm followed by BINGO at 7:00 pm. The cost to participate in the Fun Run is $20.00 which includes an event t-shirt. Friday evening there will be the annual dinner in the park at 6:00 pm. All community members are invited to attend and the evening will close out with a fireworks display.

“Saturday we’re going to kick off the morning 7:30 am with our Field of Flags. Our Field of Flags is about 400 American Flags that we have on display here in town. The flags will be on display pretty much through the whole week. But we want to have a special celebration commemorating 9/11 on that morning so will have a ceremony at 7:30 am,” stated Mayor Justice. The local fire department will be hosting a breakfast at 7:30 am. The car show will also take place at 10:00 am, and there will be several vendor booths set up in the park. New this year is a community softball game, plus a cornhole tournament. The evening will close out with a Light Parade at 8:30 pm.
