The Carbon Lady Dinos soccer team welcomed the Richfield Wildcats to Price on Thursday for a region contest. In a highly competitive match-up the Dinos and Wildcats would need penalty kicks to decide the out come and Carbon came away taking the win 5-4 on penalty kicks.

The Dinos are enjoying a 6-2 record and are now 1-0 in region play, and have already jumped up one spot to No.5 in the RPI that was released just yesterday.

Carbon and Richfield matches are always exciting, last season the Wildcats won both meetings, but by just one goal.

Thursday’s match would not disappoint either with both teams playing to a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation. Kinley Cowdell scored Carbon’s only goal in regulation in the first half, Richfield would counter in half number two knotting up the score at one goal each.

Cowdell, Beverly Lancaster, Amiah Timothy, Allie Smith and Jezmin Presset all found the back of the net in the penalty kick phase giving Carbon the win.

This was a big win for the and a great way to start the Region 12 season. Next week they will face Canyon View on the road on Tuesday and then be home for Grand County on Thursday.

Canyon View will become coming off a 4-0 win against Emery on Aug. 31 and Grand defeated Emery yesterday 1-0.

The time for the Grand game Thursday is set for 4 p.m. on the soccer field at Carbon High.
