The Carbon County 4-H program is hosting a Parent Night on Thursday, September 16 at 6:00 pm on the campus of USU Eastern in the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center. All parents along with their children who are interested in the 4-H Program can come learn what the program is all about. 4-H Program Coordinator, DeLayna Barr took time to come into Castle Country Radio to discuss all the details.

“It is going to be at USU Eastern in the ballroom I believe, and we’re going to serve you dinner and we’re going to have some activities, you won’t just be sitting there and listening. We do want to let you know how 4-H can take your kids through a pathway of career and college readiness. We’re going to have some events there that you can participate in that our Teen Leaders have done and will implement for you to try what happens in 4-H,” stated Barr. Many folks believe that 4-H Programs are strictly livestock but that is not the case there are so many opportunities offered through 4-H.

“Like 4-H inspires the next generation of leaders, inventors, entrepreneurs, problem solvers. We’re the nation’s largest positive youth development program and we offer a wide variety of programs, projects, contests, events, from livestock to sewing, to leadership to robotics,” said Barr. The program is open to children ages 8-18 years of age with Cloverbud programs available for kids ages 5-7 years of age.

There are many valuable skills that children can learn by being a part of the 4-H program.  “They’re learning so many soft skills. We’ve talked about accepting differences, planning and organizing, decision making, and then that communication. Some other soft skills that we in 4-H try to implement is that critical thinking, and of course accepting differences, and cooperation, and conflict resolution, they’re all apart of 4-H and what we do,” stated Barr. There are so many benefits for children in being a part of the 4-H program.

Right now, the 4-H program is offering 50 percent off registration fees. For the month of September, the yearly cost to participate is only $5.00 per child. To register for the 4-H program contact their office at (435) 636-3233 or plan on attending the Parent Night event on September 16.
