The Carbon Dinos will enter region play on the football field this Friday with the No. 8 ranking in the first Utah High School Activities Association RPI, it was revealed Monday morning.
Splitting the first four games of the season the Dinos hold a record of 2-2 entering Friday’s league opener. Carbon is currently ranked higher than three of the five times in the 3A South division.
The Grantsville Cowboys are ranked at the top of the first RPI despite a 3-2 record. With games against Provo, Beaver and North Sanpete, the Cowboys have accumulated the toughest schedule in 3A up to this point.
Juab, the defending 3A State Champions, come in at No. 2 with a record of 4-1. Juan Diego, Morgan and North Sanpete round out the top five. The playoff format for 2021 will give each of the top four teams a bye in the opening round. Teams ranked five through 12 will make up the first round on Oct. 22.
Ogden and Union are also ranked above the Dinos as both sit at 2-3. Union defeated Carbon this past Friday 38-6 in Price.
Carbon will look to improve on its standing in the RPI when they host homecoming this Friday against No. 11 Manti. After defeating Union in the season opener, the Templars have lost four straight games.
