The Emery volleyball squad is enjoying some time off this week, but it doesn’t mean there is nothing to talk about. The first RPI poll of the year came out and has Emery sitting at No. 4 in the poll that will ultimately give us the seeding for the State Championship Tournament that will start on October 23.

Layton Christian is on top of the rankings followed by Carbon, Morgan, Emery and South Summit.

Emery will have a chance to plead their case when they return to the floor on September 21 to face the Carbon Dinos. The Spartans will have two meetings with the Dinos and Grand County before the end of the season. They also hook up once more with Richfield and Canyon View plus a non-region contest with Delta.

The RPI will be updated daily from know until the end of the season when the tournament bracket will be released on October 20.

The RPI standings are determined by three statistically categories:

*MWP (Modified Winning Percentage): Divide the number of possible points by the number of total available points from games played accounting for the adjustment between classifications.

*OWP (Opponents Winning Percentage): Average of the winning percentage of a team’s opponent.

*OOWP (Opponents’ Opponents Winning Percentage): Same process as OWP except the calculation is with the opponents of the team’s opponent.
