It’s time for another Huntington City update with Mayor Leonard Norton who took time to speak over the telephone with Castle Country Radio to discuss water, sidewalk project, elections and Halloween Festival.

“You know like we talked about our water situation, everybody is worried about it and we actually got farther in the year than we thought we would so I want to commend our citizens for taking care of our water this year and getting us farther than we can or where we thought we would,” said Mayor Norton. The city’s secondary water should last them till the first part of October thanks to the citizens and all their hard work in conserving water over the summer months.

There has been a huge sidewalk project taking place on the city’s Main Street that is now completed.  “We finally got our Main Street sidewalk project done. From the north to the south now we have a sidewalk all the way down, we just finished up on our south end just this last week got it completed. So we have from 4th North to 4th South we have sidewalks all along Main Street,” stated Mayor Norton. This has been a summer-long project that the city is happy to have completed for their citizens. During the fall months the city plans to do some repair work to some of the other sidewalks around town.

The election this year didn’t gather a lot of interest so the city will not host elections, as Norton explains, “So if we would have had more people running for different positions, we would have continued to hold our election. But where we only had one candidate for each position and no write-ins so we were able to cancel our election this year, everybody is put in by default.” Those that will continue to serve the community are looking forward to additional years of service for Huntington City.

The city would like to invite everyone out for the annual Halloween Festival set to take place on October 1. “We got a little group in Huntington called We Witches and they put on a little Halloween Festival. It’s going to be October 1 this year and they have a little light parade that starts about 7:00 pm and it starts on 100 South and it snakes around and goes back and ends up at the city park, where they have a little Halloween festival or kind of a witches dance,” explained Mayor Norton. The gathering is free and open to everyone in the community. There will be vendor booths set up for folks to visit at the park.
