The Carbon Lady Dinos were unable to protect home field as they suffered a 3-1 loss to the Canyon View Falcons in a Region 12 contest Tuesday afternoon on the soccer field.
Beverly Lancaster scored the lone goal of the afternoon for Carbon as the Lady Dinos stayed within striking distance of the powerful Falcons. With seven minutes remaining the first half the game was stopped due to lightning. The delay lasted for 55 minutes before resuming play, but another lightning strike forced a second stoppage with 29 minutes remaining. Roughly an hour after the second stoppage a decision was made to call the game in favor of Canyon View.
Amiah Timothy assisted Lancaster on Carbon’s only score. Despite allowing three goals, Emma Flemmet delivered a solid performance at goalie with 15 saves.
The Lady Dinos needed to secure a victory on Tuesday in order to claim at least a share of the Region 12 crown. The loss for Carbon was the clincher for Canyon View, who improved to 13-3 on the season, but more importantly 7-0 in Region 12 action.
Carbon will have an opportunity to close out the season with a bang as they will welcome in the rival Emery Spartans on Thursday afternoon. The meeting will be the second of the season, the first ended in favor of Carbon 2-1 back on Sept. 14.
Tuesday’s loss did little to hurt Carbon in the UHSAA RPI rankings. Boasting the most difficult schedule percentage wise of all top 10 teams, the Lady Dinos remain No. 6. Canyon View is currently No. 2 as of Wednesday morning.
