The Carbon Lady Dinos completed the season sweep of the Emery Lady Spartans with a dominating 8-0 victory Thursday afternoon in Price.
Returning to the field just two days after suffering a crucial region loss to Canyon View, the Lady Dinos showed no signs of a letdown, taking immediate control of the game with six first half goals.
Junior Kinley Cowdell found the back of the net three times as five Carbon players scored at least one goal. Sophomore Amiah Timothy ran her season total to 19 as she scored twice. Beverly Lancaster and Brittany Huff also scored once.
Senior Molly Banks put together a solid performance as she finished with one goal and three assists.
The win for Carbon clinches second place in the Region 12 division, placing them behind Canyon View, who is a perceived top three seed in the playoffs. The Lady Dinos will return to the field in a make-up contest with the Grand Red Devils on Tuesday, Oct. 5 at home to wrap up the regular season.
For Emery, Thursday’s loss marked the seventh in eight region games and the second consecutive shutout defeat. Despite battling on the defensive side of the field Tuesday, the Lady Spartans were unable to keep pace with Richfield in a 3-0 setback.
Both Carbon and Emery will now await the release of the final RPI rankings, which will determine playoff seeding.
The first round of the 3A State Tournament will begin on Saturday, Oct. 9. The top 10 seeds will receive a second round bye, giving the higher seeds of each second round matchup a home contest on Oct. 13.
