Thracy “Laki” Limberis, born Thrasivoulos Limberopoulos, passed away on October 1, 2021. He was born on January 15, 1930 to Limberis and Yianoula Limberopoulos in Kiveri, Greece. In 1956, Thracy immigrated from Greece to the United States to establish a life for himself and his future wife. On June 10, 1962 he married Nota Dokos at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Thracy grew up in a fishing village where he learned at a very young age the meaning of dedicated, hard work. He helped his family’s fishing business out of necessity for sustenance and income, even through the hardships of Italian and German occupation during World War II. He later served in the Greek Navy for two years, including service as military police. Upon immigrating to the United States, he immediately recognized the need of an education, enrolled in Salt Lake Trade Technical Institute, and became a welder. He applied his craft at Titan Steel Corporation for several years.

The bulk of his free time, outside his work and family, was spent learning new skills so he could repair things, improve things, and design things. He was an all-around handyman. His additional free time he spent fishing with family and friends. Although he had fished for a livelihood out of necessity, he still enjoyed the sport of fishing, especially in the relaxing settings of Utah’s lakes and reservoirs. He also had a passion for gardening, and he designed an elaborate automated watering system that ensured all his plants had measured quantities of water.

Anybody who knew Thracy knew that he was going to make them laugh. Laki, as he was known to most, had a knack for putting smiles on peoples’ faces, be they family, friends, and even strangers. We will always have those smiles on our faces when we remember the fun times we had with him over the years.

Thracy is survived by his wife Nota; daughters: Noula (James) Lowe and Belinda (Grant) Graff; his son Loren (Jaclyn) Limberis; his grandchildren: Ariel (Damian), Peter, Marc, Spencer (Destiny), Katerina, and Katelyn; and his great grandson Cooper. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Pete, Antonia, Eleni, and Angeliki; and his son-in-law Dr. John Mantas.

The family wants to thank all the staff at the Heirloom Inn and Community Nursing Services for their loving care.
