The Pinnacle Panther baseball squad entered into the post season on Friday with a play-in game against the Intermountain Christian Lions, who defeated the Panthers to move on 11-5.

The Panthers season has had highs and lows and ended at 4-21, with wins over Wendover, Tintic, Telos and Green River.

In the game against Intermountain Christian, Pinnacle jumped out in the first inning going up 3-2 behind a double off of the bat of Michael Schmitz, who added another RBI to his team leading total of 20 this season. Jayson Miller would reach on an error from a fly ball two right which allowed Schmitz and Brendan Bigelow to score.

In the following innings, the Lions added runs throughout  with the most damage coming in the fifth when they added four more.

Pinnacle added runs in the fifth and another in the top of the sixth but that would be as close as they would get taking the 11-5 loss.

McGuire Kocks earned two runs and two hits in the loss for the Panthers. Schmitz added two hits and one run with Delbert Lain collecting an RBI also Peyton Riley added one hit.

On the mound Schmitz went 4 and 2/3 innings giving up nine runs (three earned) five hits while striking out nine. Kocks entered in relief going one and 1/3 giving up two runs both earned on one hit striking out three.

The Panthers head into the off-season and will prepare to say goodbye to names like Schmitz and Kocks who are seniors this season, but next year we will look to Riley, Bigelow and Miller to move Pinnacle forward.
