The Green River Pirates had a rough year in 2021. They didn’t have enough players to have a junior varsity this season, in fact, at the beginning of the year the barely had enough players to field a varsity team. On Friday they ended their season with a loss to Tintic in a play-in game at the 1A State Championship Tournament 11-1.

Green River ended the regular season with a 1-18 record and a No. 14 spot in the RPI, which landed them in a play-in game with the Tintic Miners.

Tintic was first on the board with four runs in the second inning. The middle innings were quiet with the Pirates putting their only run, a steal of home by Ryker Meadows in the top of the fifth. The Miners threw four more runs on the board in the bottom of the fifth and three in the bottom of the sixth to close out the Pirates.

Four Pirates added five hits in the loss. Camden Anderson had two hits in two at bats. Hoyt Hunt, Jay Mendez and Cristian Venzor all collected hits for Green River.

On the mound Jordan Anderson got the start going four innings giving up eight runs (four earned) on five hits and struck out six. Meadows entered going one inning surrendering three earned on one hit and Venzor came in to finish out the game.

The good news for the Pirates is that they are only losing two seniors and all of the young underclassmen earned great experience this season that could pay-off next year for Green River.
