The Price City Police Department is very busy keeping the community safe so it was nice that they were able to take some time from their busy schedule to come into Castle Country Radio to discuss coloring with cops, Halloween safety and Peer Support Fundraiser.

Local children in the area have been enjoying a great activity being hosted by the Price City Police Department called Coloring with Cops. This event is through a grant that was given by the school district and Captain Ratcliffe coordinates the program.  “What this event does is it includes students, they can come in, or they can get a copy of a coloring page off our social media site, he usually posts those, as it gets closer through it and what the kids can do is get a copy of that and they take it, color it, do that and turn it back in to the Police Department and he goes through them. The participating students, everybody that turns something in from what I understand get some sort of a small charitable prize. The winners get a much more, as he puts it, colossal prize for those participants,” explained Sgt. Kelly Maynes. The program has been a great outreach program for law enforcement officers to interact with the children in the community.

Speaking of children, Halloween safety is another important topic to cover especially since Halloween activities were scaled back last year due to the COVID pandemic. This year it falls on a Sunday but there could be some families that will celebrate on Saturday.  “I think we’re going to have a lot of kids out and about this time, going through it, I think it will be fun.  But remind everybody to watch out at the school crossing zones, especially there Friday when schools getting out, school always do their holiday parties, watch for the kids out moving around, especially once those nights come,” said Sgt. Kelly Maynes. The Price City Police Department will have extra officers out patrolling on these nights to help keep the children safe as they enjoy the holiday.

The department will be hosting their Second Annual Peer Support Fundraiser on October 20. “This Peer Support thing it’s a great program that we started and it really helps out our area of first responders when we have critical incidents, even when there not what people would think is a critical incident but having our first responders know that they have someone to turn to, that they can talk to, that can help them through certain situations,” stated Sgt. Kelly Maynes. This is a jail and bail event for local first responders that have to try to gather funds from family and friends to get bailed out. All the proceeds earned go towards the Peer Support Program.
