Our dear sister and Aunt, Marie Fausett, 92, passed away Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Good Life Senior Living in Price.

Marie was the fifth child from a family of nine born to Ervin and Clara Belle Smithson Fausett in Price, Utah on March 23, 1929 in a small two-room home by lantern light. She was named after the midwife, Marie Villard.

During her youth, she herded sheep and cows with her two brothers and did other chores such as piling hay, shocking grain, and weeding and thinning beets. In the fall along with her siblings, they would miss school for two weeks and top sugar beets to be sent to Idaho for processing.

In May of 1948, she worked at Carbon Locker. The name was later changed to Jeanselme’s Supermarket. The starting wage was 50 cents an hour. She wrapped meat for a self-service counter and for the cold-storage units. Later, her wages increased to $4.00 an hour as she wrapped cheese, lunch meat, and stocked shelves. She loved working at this store. When the store closed, she went to work at Smith’s Food King for a while and then to Builder’s Specialties, a lumber company located at the west end of Fausett Lane. Her sister, June, was right beside her, like inseparable twins, and worked at the same businesses.

Her love of art gave her the opportunity of teaching adult education evening classes in East Carbon, Emery High School and Carbon High School. She was in charge of many art exhibits in the church and at the Carbon County Fair. She supervised parades on Main Street, also. She had her art studio by her home and taught many students. Art was the love of her life and she was still painting at age 84.

Marie was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she was called to different positions, but the one she loved most dear was the ward librarian’s job, which she held for many years.

She loved living on Fausett Lane and loved her neighbors, family, and friends. After retirement, she continued to oil paint, cook, sew, crochet, do genealogy research, and yard work. She was always on top of things and very involved in everything. She was an expert when it came to telling jokes.

Because of her talent, it got her going on organizing history books for her parents, all siblings, and other family members. The books are absolutely beautiful.

Marie is survived by her brother, Allen Babe (Sandra) Fausett, Castle Dale, Utah; and one sister, Dot Cole, Price, Utah; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Dee, Bud, Ted and Don; and two sisters, Fern and June.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Dr. Shane Gagon, Dr. Sterling Potter, Dr. Cameron Williams, the staff at Good Life Senior Living, and Marie’s special nurses, Raeann Fausett and Willow Jones who worked for CNS Hospice and Rick Stockburger who worked for Symbii Hospice. Thanks to Mitchell Funeral Home for its kindness and service.
