This week’s Carbon School District weekly update shines light on the Castle Valley Center. Principal Amy Bell stopped by Castle Country Radio to share some information on a dinner that was hosted for their students and about book drive to help develop a school library.

There was a dinner organized by the school called the Beauty and Beast Dinner.  “Kim Williams who is our Autism Specialist in the district created this fantastic experience for us. She spearheaded the whole thing but she decorated a Beauty and Beast themed dinner. So we had our students come in and we created a restaurant-like experience for them.  So they were able to order off a menu, they came with their classroom, sat at their table and learned to wait, and kind of socialize and have some experience while they waited for their food. Then the high school students came over prepared the light snacks, that our students had, took the orders, brought it to their tables. It was just really a fantastic experience for both sides,” stated Principal Bell. This was a perfect way for students to get familiar with the way things work in a restaurant-type setting.

The school is in the process of hosting a book drive to help them develop a school library as the school does not have one at this time. Castle Valley Center is looking for help from the community to help stock the library shelves. “We have some funds set aside by our district that is going to help us with that but we would like to offer via opportunity for people in the community to support us too. We always have great people in the community who are always asking our school what they can do to help us. They are always finding ways we can support, can we donate, what can we do. So we thought this was a great way to involve the community to partner with us at our district,” said Principal Bell. The school currently works closely with the Price City Library who has offered their services to the Castle Valley Center students but a school library would give students the opportunity to get a sense of the library experience while at school.

“We’re looking for new books. We’re looking for picture books most of our reading level is at that and that’s what will benefit the students the most, so we’re looking for picture books. We’ve created a registry, interesting just like you would do a baby registry or a wedding registry. Amazon offers the opportunity to create a custom registry, where we’ve gone on a created a custom list, it’s under Castle Valley Center. So if they go to https://www.amazon.com/ they can search for registry under Castle Valley Center, it will say library book drive,” explained Principal Bell. The school has preselected the books they wish to have in their library and will add to that list as books are ordered and shipped to the school.
