Fall season is in the air which means it’s hunting and Halloween time around the local area. Carbon County Sheriff Jeff Wood stopped by Castle Country Radio to talk about heading to the mountains and Halloween safety concerns.
“You know that weather has changed and this year is one of those years that’s kind of a throw back year, I like to call it, there’s actually snow in the mountains right now with more coming this week,” said Sheriff Wood. If you are headed to the mountains to do some hunting you want to be sure to be prepared. That means letting folks know where you will be, dressing warm, having tires chains/towing straps and do not take your trailer somewhere too difficult just in case it snows. The Carbon County Search and Rescue Team are always on call to help individuals who may become lost or stranded. Keep in mind that the Search and Rescue team can only rescue the individual they cannot retrieve vehicles.
There will be several children in the Castle Country area that will be out trick or treating this weekend and it’s important for parents to go over safety tips with this child. “We’ve been running Halloween Safety Tips, you’ll hear them all week on the radio station from local law enforcement and they’re good little tips. So just be careful. Make sure your kids are well lit, reflective safe costumes, and they look both ways when they cross the street. As the motoring public, I always say this, if you aren’t watching for them, they’re absolutely not watching for you,” stated Sheriff Wood. Parents should accompany their little trick or treaters when possible and make sure that they only go to homes they are familiar with.
The recent Peer Support Fundraiser for first responders was held last week and it was a huge success. “Big shout out to the public for supporting that. That is so crucial in our area and big shout out to the Price City Police Department for starting that. That was started by TJ Robertson over at Price City he’s a sergeant over there and it’s a great benefit, it supports all first responders in our area,” said Sheriff Wood. The proceeds from the event help the Peer Support group with trainings so that they can better serve the first responders when they are in crisis.
