Ray A. Stokes of Price, Utah was born August 29, 1930 in Cleveland, Utah, the son of James Alfred Stokes and Zella Alger Stokes. Ray went home peacefully October 23, 2021 at the age of 91.

Ray was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints.  He had a testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  He had faith in God, prayer, and the priesthood.

Ray entered the Marine Corp platoon 316 in San Diego, California on August 22, 1950.  He was proud to be a marine and serve with several friends from home.

Ray married Carol Joyce McElprang August 22, 1952.  Together they raised six children and later divorced.  Ray married Mary Dugdale Edmunds February 24, 2012 and they later divorced.  Ray loved and was proud of his family. He was a strong and hardworking man and a good provider.  Ray enjoyed the details, events and accomplishments of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Each one holds a special place in his heart.

Ray worked in the coal mines of Emery and Carbon Counties and at Kaiser Mine in Sunny he finished his mining career. He was a top notch mechanic.  He was a proud member of the United Mine Workers of America and was sent to Washington DC to lobby for Black Lung rights for miners, and he won.

Ray spent countless hours ranching and farming. He was an avid outdoorsman. Ray loved hunting, fishing, prospecting and trapping.

Survived by his children, Elvin Stokes, Susan (Gary) Sitterud, Clark Stokes, Carla Anderson, Corinne (Bruce) Wilson; 17 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; brother, Garth (Donna) Stokes.

Preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Corinne, Helen, and his twin Reva; brothers, James, Donald and Gary; son, David; grandson, JayDee; son-in-law, Bill Anderson.

Funeral service, Monday, November 1, 2021, 11:00 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home.  Family will receive friends at Mitchell Funeral Home on Sunday evening from 5:00-7:00 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Monday. Interment, Cleveland Town Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home where friends are always welcome daily and may share memories online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
