Price City each month sends a representative to Castle Country Radio to keep listeners posted or informed on various topics. This month brought in Price City Public Works Director, Miles Nelson who spoke on water conservation, leaf and snow removal, and road projects.
Water conservation was a huge issue this year and the citizens of Price did their part in helping to save water. “They really did, it was amazing this year, we’ve averaged over 33 percent less water usage this year, than in average years and the citizens really stepped up and were careful with water, which shows that we can do it as a community,” said Nelson. City officials were very pleased with how the water conservation efforts played out over the summer.
Now with fall in the air there is the issue with cleaning up fall leaves on or around your property. “It’s important to remember that we shouldn’t be raking leaves into the gutters because that causes problems with our storm drains and can also cause safety problems with vehicles and pedestrians. So we’re asking people to follow certain guidelines when they do their leaves. We’ll help you with the leaves if you’ll bag them up, and leave them on the parkway, we’ll come by and pick them up if you call us,” explained Nelson. Residents can get assistance with pickup/disposal of their bagged-up leaves by calling the Public Works Department at (435) 637-5010.
Winter is right around the corner so it is important that residents remember the city’s ordinances and snow removal procedures. “If you have vehicles on the road, you’re supposed to remove those within 24 hours, and also supposed to shovel your own walks within 24 hours adjacent to your property to avoid having hazards, icy hazards develop for pedestrians. It’s also important where you place the snow, if you’re removing the snow from your drive way, you should try and keep all the snow on your own property, if possible,” stated Nelson. Residents should keep in mind to never push or pile the snow into the street as it poses potential hazards for traffic.
The city is finishing up several road projects around town and are already looking at what needs to be worked on for next year. “We realized that we have a lot of roads in town, we have over 50 miles worth of roads in town to take care of and there’s many of them that are in bad repair. We’ve been fortunate recently to be able to hire a new engineer. We’ve been for over a year without an engineer and we’re teaming up and making plans to prioritize all the roads in town so that we know which ones are coming next on projects and looking at the price tag see if there is any way we can accelerate the number of roads that we do every year,” said Nelson. Community members that would like to report a road hazard can contact the Public Works Department at (435) 637-5010.
