The Emery Spartan swim squad welcomed four other schools to the Emery Aquatic Center on Tuesday for the first swim meet of the season. The Spartan boys grabbed the top spot out of four schools and the girls landed in second place behind Carbon.

The boys grabbed five top finishes on their way to a first place finish.  Richfield, Carbon and South Sevier rounded out the field.

In the 200 yard medley the Emery team of Kegley Terry, Jacob Fauver, Kyler Minchey and Dax Minchey turned in a time of 1:55.27, to take first place in the event. In the boys 200 free it was Kade Larsen who came up with a third place finish in 2:24.78. The 200 yard IM had Fauver coming in second place with a time of 2:36.85.

Terry finished in first place in the 100 yard fly at 1:19.30, and in the 100 yard free the Spartans earned the top two places as Dax Minchey and Fauver went one and two. Terry also grabbed the the top finish in the 100 yard back, which featured three other Spartans in the top nine.

The Emery team of Fauver, Terry, Bryant Durrant and Dax Minchey took the top spot in the 200 yard free, and wrapping up the day in the 400 yard free relay the team of Alex Frederick, Durrant, Larsen and Kyler Minchey finished in second place.

For the Lady Spartans the 200 yard free was good to Abby Johansen who finished first with a time of 2:31.02, just seconds ahead of Richfield’s Avah Kling who turned in a time of 2:32.45. Katie McCandless grabbed a second place finish and Aspen Jensen fourth in the 200 yard IM.  The team of Johansen, Cambrie Jensen, Sydney Carter and Aubrey Guymon finished in second in the 200 yard free relay , the Spartans also had teams claim fourth and fifth in the race.

In the 50 yard free, Guymon took the second place finish as Carter and Jensen also had top 10 finishes. Ashlyn Durrant and Maggie Lindsey finished just outside the top 10.

Guymon was not quite finished as she also took the top spot in the 100 yard free with a time of 1:02.42, Carter was right behind her for second. Jensen, Rileigh Meccariello , Destiny Taylor and Lindsey also placed in the top 10.

Carley Young finished two seconds ahead of Carbon’s Mia Crompton to take first place in the 100 yard breaststroke. Purity Mason finished in seventh place.

And in the 400 yard free relay the team of Durrant, McCandless, Kelsey Thomas and Elli Whitesel finished in second behind Carbon.

The Carbon Dinos took first place on the ladies side of things with 375 points. Emery finished in second with 292. Richfield , South Sevier and North Sevier rounded out the top five.

The Spartans will travel to Cedar City next Friday and Saturday for the Cedar Invitational, they won’t be back to their home pool until Nov. 23 when they will welcome the Gunnison Valley Bulldogs.
