The Lady Spartans started their season right where they left off, meeting the Morgan Trojans. Back in February the two teams hooked up in the 3A State Championship Game, with Morgan taking the 51-47 win. This time around with Castle Dale and the Spartan Center as the backdrop it was the Spartans that came out on top 59-50.

Head coach Lynn Tuttle was recently a guest on KOAL’s Drive Time Sports where he had the chance to talk about this special group of seniors.

“We’ve got a couple of three year starters that I’m hoping bring a bunch of leadership to the floor. Definitely have some veterans on the team they’ve been there, done it. We should have all kinds of experience and looking forward to this year.”

With Tambrie Tuttle and Tatum Tanner not available it was time for other girls to step up, and they did.

The game was every bit as advertised starting out in the first half as Emery would take a five point lead into the locker room. The Spartans seemed in control adding to their lead and claiming the win.

Led by senior Baylee Jacobsen who dropped 25 points grabbed four rebounds and dished out four assists, the Spartans put out a full team effort and made up for Tuttle and Tanner’s absence.

“The girls get along so well, not even on the basketball floor, you get them out in every day social life they’re always together. Best friends they go back to being unselfish they don’t care who’s doing it they love to see each and every one of them succeed in what they’re doing.”

Brynn Gordon added 10 points and pulled down six boards and Addie Lester had nine points to go with her four rebounds. Daicee Ungerman snatched five steals and four rebounds as well in the victory.

Emery will be home again on Tuesday when they will face Manti.  You have to go back to December of 2019 to find the last time these two teams faced each other and in that one it was Emery coming out on top 49-36. The contest with Manti will be held in the Spartan Center and tip-off is set for 7:00p.m..

After another home contest with Uintah on November 30, the Lady Spartans head out on the road for a weekend of tournament action when they travel to Fruita, Colorado, where they will play four games in three days.
