Active Re-Entry offers several support groups for individuals who may need help with coping strategies or just need that social support. Director, Terri Yelonek took time to come into Castle Country Radio to share all the details about the support groups, as well as talk about the upcoming Pet Photos with Santa event.
“The holidays can be a really tough time for some people in our community. They may be struggling because they are caring for loved ones that are struggling, they may have lost a loved one, and grief is quite extensive or can be really difficult during the holiday periods. So I wanted to talk with you today about our support groups that we have,” stated Yelonek. A few of the support groups offered through Active Re-Entry are the Caregivers Support Group, Grief Support Group and Low Vision Support Group.
“We have a Caregivers Support Group, first and foremost, and that is for anyone who is caring for a loved one who has a special need. It may be that they have a disability, they may have dementia, any kind of caregiving that a person may be doing with a loved one or friend,” said Yelonek. There is a lot of caregiver burn out that happens so having a place that an individual can go to share their personal experiences and feelings can help. The support group is peer-led which helps to understand what one is facing when providing caregiving. This group meets once a month on the last Wednesday of each month at 1:30 pm at Active Re-Entry on Fairgrounds Road.
“The next one is the Grief Support Group and that is if you lost a family member or a friend, just had any type of loss that you are dealing with. The Grief Support Group is a great place to come to be with others who are dealing with the same type of grief and loss issues,” said Yelonek. This group meets monthly as well, they gather on the second Wednesday of each month at 1:30 pm, again at the Active Re-Entry building. The Low Vision Support Group is for anyone that is losing their vision, anyone of any age is invited to attend. They meet the third Thursday of each month.
Along with the great support group services offered at Active Re-Entry they are preparing for their annual Photos with Santa event. “Come on the 1st of December from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The donation, the minimum we are asking is $10.00 but of course this is a fundraiser we’ll take anything that you can spare. The proceeds go to benefit Perkie Travels, which is the free transportation shuttle from Carbon County to Utah Valley for radiation treatments for cancer patients,” said Yelonek. The Perkie Travels program is ran solely on generous donations from community members and local businesses.
