Many elderly people in our community will be spending Christmas alone which makes for a sad and miserable time of year. The community would like to bring the holiday spirit to them by sponsoring the Seventh Annual Community Angel Tree for the Seniors.
“This is a community project and we have people from all walks of life and every denomination or no denomination come in and get ornaments and shop for the county of seniors in Carbon County and Emery County,” said Event Organizer, Nancy Labahan. This year the program has expanded its outreach to include the seniors in Emery County so there will be two trees set up to get your angel.
There will be a tree set up inside the Emery County Courthouse at 75 East Main Street in Castle Dale. “The one in Carbon County is in our County Administration Building at 751 East 100 North. It’s the county clerk, right outside her office and it’s in the lobby. All we ask is that you take as many as you want, and write the number down, and your name and phone number,” explained Labahan. Individuals/families interested in adopting a Senior Angel can do so at either location Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
This year the wrapped gifts must be returned to Notre Dame Hope Center on 185 North Carbon Avenue in Price no later than December 9. Deliveries are scheduled to take place on December 11. “There is just something magical when there’s a little person opens the door, and their eyes filled with tears when we’re standing there with Christmas presents for them. It just the most rewarding thing because so many times these people are forgotten and it just does your heart good,” stated Labahan. This year’s event has a Delivery Coordinator who is Terry Willis. She will be organizing all the deliveries this year so if you or your organization would like to help with deliveries, please contact her at (435) 650-1209.
