A dominate defensive second quarter performance gave the Emery Lady Spartans a double-digit edge as they closed out a three-game home stand with a comfortable 57-38 win over the Uintah Utes Tuesday night at the Spartan Center in Castle Dale.

Carrying a 21-15 lead into the second quarter, the Lady Spartans outscored the 5A Utes 11-1 in the second stanza. The Emery offense sputtered for a brief moment in the third quarter, but responded with 18 points in the final eight minutes to secure the win.

Baylee Jacobson continued her hot start to the new campaign as she scored a team high 14 points on a 4-of-7 shooting from the field. A consistent threat throughout the first three games, Jacobson is currently averaging a team best 18.7 points per tilt.

After missing the first two games of the season senior Tambrie Tuttle made her first appearance as she poured in 12 points to go along with five rebounds and one steal. Junior Tatum Tanner also played for the first time this season as she tallied six points and three rebounds.

Emery has secured its place as one of the top teams in the 3A classification after an impressive start to the 2021-22 campaign. The early season resume’ already includes a win over the defending state champion Morgan Trojans and a lopsided victory over Manti. So far the Lady Spartans have defeated their opponents by an average of 18 points per game.

The week is just beginning as Emery will now prepare to play four games in three days beginning Thursday. The Lady Spartans will travel to Uintah for a pre-season tournament, putting them up against competition from various classifications.

Thursday will bring a late night 8:30 tip-off against unbeaten 4A Ridgeline. The girls will return to the court on Friday against Fruita Monument at 1:00 p.m.. The weekend will end with two games on Saturday, the first against 2A San Juan and the second against 4A Sky View.

Emery will become battle tested on the road as the next six games will all come away from the Spartan Center. The next home contest is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 14 against the Delta Rabbits.
