The Emery Swim team traveled to Richfield on Wednesday for their fourth meet of the season. The Spartans have some strong swimmers on both the girls and the boys side this season, and it showed in Richfield as the Lady Spartans grabbed the top spot at the meet with the boys grabbing third.

With over ten schools participating on both the girls and boys side, schools from the 2A, 3A and 4A ranks competed. On the girls side is was Emery taking the top spot, followed by Millard, Spanish Fork, Hurricane and host team Richfield.

In the girls 200 yard medley relay the team of Allison Johansen, Carley Young, Katie McCandless and Abby Morris swam to a fifth place finish in a time of 2:28.41 just a couple of seconds behind fourth place Richfield.  Johansen would go on to take second in the 200 yard IM turning in a time of 2:559.73, as well as a top five finish along with Aubrey Guymon and Cambrie Jensen in the 100 yard backstroke. Young would also go on to place individually in the 100 yard breaststroke with a first place time of 1:27.90. McCandless swam to a second place time of 7:06.29 in the 500 yard free Elli Whitesel followed closely behind for third.

In the 200 yard freestyle relay the Sydney Carter, Abby Johansen, Cambrie Jensen and Aubrey Guymon, finished in second place with a time of 1:55.35, this same team also grabbed the top spot in the 400 yard freestyle relay and then the team of Rileigh Meccariello , Maggie Lindsey, Claire Lindsey and Purity Mason finished just behind in third. Abby Johansen swam to a second place finish in the 200 yard freestyle and a fourth place finish in the 100 yard butterfly. Guymon and Carter went No.’s 2 and 3 in the girls freestyle. Carter also took the top finish in the 100 yard freestyle.

The boys finished the meet in third place behind host team Richfield and Millard then Emery, Hurricane and Spanish Fork rounded out the top five.

The relay team of Dax Minchey, Kyler Minchey, Jacob Fauver and Alex Frederick started the day with a second place finish in the 200 medley. Fauver also claimed the top spot in the 100 yard butterfly turning in a time of 1:06.58 Kade Larsen finished in fifth. Dax Minchey took second in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 55.68 three seconds off the pace set by Hurricane’s Kevin Bunn.  Kyler Minchey finished the 100 yard breaststroke in fourth place while Tyler Frandsen was right behind him in fifth.

In the 200 yard freestyle relay the Spartan team of Kyler Minchey, Dax Minchey, Fauver and Larsen swam their way to a second place finish with a time of 1:45.18, three seconds behind first place Richfield. And then in the final relay of the day Larsen, Frandsen, Frederick and Bernard Griffin took fourth in the 400.

Up next for the Spartans is a meet in Cedar City, The Canyon View Invitational, On Friday and Saturday.
