
The Carbon Dinos were back in the pool over the weekend in Cedar City to take part in the Canyon View Invitational. Competing against 15 other teams from across the state and all classes the Dinos end the weekend with the girls claiming the seventh spot and the boys team in eighth.
This was a large meet with some of the individual races having over 40 participants. The team from Cedar City High School claimed the top spot on both the boys and girls side of the pool.
For the girls, Springville followed Cedar, then Maple Mountain, Snow Canyon and Salem Hills. Carbon, Crimson Cliffs, Juan Diego and Emery round out the top 10.
For the Dinos, the girls 200 medley relay team of Alyssa Chamberlain, Tyrca Jaramillo, Katelyn Bower and Thalyn Lyman finished in seventh place with a time of 2:09.30. Chamberlain and Lyman would also go four and five in the 50 free. Lyman would add a fifth place finish in the 100 free, turning in a time of 1:02.33. Chamberlain would place again in the 500 free taking ninth and team mate Ellie Hanson would finish just behind in tenth. Jaramillo claimed the seventh spot in the 100 breaststroke. And in the final relay of the day for the girls Chamberlain, Katelyn Bower, Hadley Bower and Jaramillo grabbed seventh place in the 400 free.
Host team Canyon View would finish in second place behind Cedar on the boys side, followed by Crimson Cliffs, Juan Diego, Snow Canyon, Springville and Maple Mountain. Carbon, Richfield and Emery made up the rest of the top 10.
Carbon’s relay team of Thomas Dalpiaz, Dallin Watson, Gaberiel Ibanez and Spencer Tullis finished in sixth, turning in a time of 1:54.41 in the 200 medley. Camden Chamberlain also claimed a sixth place finish in the 200 free and fourth in the 500 free . In the 100 free Ibanez grabbed a second place finish just three seconds off the pace of Juan Diego’s Ethan Atzet, Ibanez would also take a fifth in the 100 backstroke.
In one of the final relays of the meet, the team of Ibanez, Chamberlain, Tullis and Nathan Engar finished ninth in the 200 free and then in the 400 relay Chamberlain, Engar, Mason Engar and Russell Seeley took the ninth spot.
Up next is a home meet for the Dinos on Tuesday against Uintah. Then it will be back on the road this weekend for the Judge Memorial Invite.
